HISTORY |
Growth of the Church |
In July of 1953 the Sunday
School record was broken with an attendance of 100. During a Fall Sunday School
Contest with Canton, OH, that record was broken several times reaching a high of 137 by
the end of the contest. The church from Canton had to come to Toledo and present an
evening's program, the price of losing. Several times during the next few years the
churches went back and forth for pay-off services. Soon these early contests sparked
great interest throughout the district and inspired the formulation of an Annual District
Fall Conference. From them came the Fall Contest held annually in the district.
After the first contest in
the Fall of 1953, Brother Kinzie realized more room would soon be needed to house the
Sunday School. The Kinzies had moved into the six room apartment that was at the
rear of the church building. During the Contest it was necessary to use the dining
room as a classroom. The quickest way to get additional space was for the Kinzies to
move out and that they did in April of 1954, buying a house located close to the present
church.
