Transition |
In May of 1982, at his 29th pastoral anniversary,
Brother Kinzie announced that he would retire the following year on the same
date. He had led the church from thirteen members to above 500, and from a converted
store-front church on Detroit Ave. to a beautiful new building on Sylvania Ave. He
felt it was time to step down.
The following year, a retirement banquet was
held in his honor, and the church, in addition to providing a pension for the retirement
years, gave him and Sister Kinzie a new Regency Oldsmobile Ninety-eight. It was a
truly memorable evening.
On the following day, the church installed
Brother J. Mark Jordan as pastor. He had served the congregation as assistant and
associate pastor for ten years previous to that date, and was no stranger to the people or
the operation of the church.
Since the move to Sylvania Avenue, the church
has been instrumental in starting two congregations in the Toledo area. Bro. Tom
Daniel and several members from First Apostolic began a work on the east side of Toledo
with great success. In 1985, that work merged with another area church, and has
gained stability in that part of the city. The following year Bro. Raymond Young
began a work in Gibsonburg, a small community about forty miles southeast of Toledo.
Again, a number of saints from First Apostolic went to help found the church there,
and have had great success! Also during this time Bro. Ed Nichols went to pastor a
small church in Medina, Ohio, and has seen a great move of God in the salvation of souls!
We rejoice in the fact that we have had a hand in the kingdom of God in places
other than Toledo.
